I used to work in marketing in Japan, developing new products and helping launch new business initiatives. I enjoyed my job, but over time I found myself asking deeper questions.
Who was I really working for?
How did I want to make the world a better place through my work?
I realized I wasn't just looking for a successful career. I wanted to create something that would genuinely bring joy to people's lives. That realization eventually led me to leave my job and explore the world.
After leaving my job, I traveled across Europe. Along the way, I volunteered in exchange for a place to stay, which led me to an Irish family who warmly welcomed me into their home.
One day, I shared a packet of Japanese miso soup with them. To me, it was just an ordinary food from Japan.
But to the children, it was something completely new. Their eyes lit up with excitement and curiosity. We ended up sharing a single packet of miso soup among all six of us.
In that moment, I realized how special it is to discover something new and share that excitement with others.
That experience inspired me to find a way to connect Japan with the world. It also reminded me of the small joy I found in stopping by a convenience store during my work breaks to try a new snack.
I found that same joy when I traveled, too. I loved exploring local supermarkets, discovering unfamiliar flavors, and bringing snacks home to open and share with family and friends.
To me, snacks are more than souvenirs. They offer a taste of a country’s culture and allow us to share the surprise and joy of travel with people who weren’t there.
I wanted to share that same sense of discovery and UKIUKI through Japanese snacks, helping people feel closer to Japan, find new favorites, and enjoy them together. That’s how UKIUKI BOX was born.
UKIUKI BOX is my way of sharing what I love about Japan with the world and bringing people closer through moments of discovery and joy.
